Galway will be hoping to continue their winning form when they face All-Ireland champions Tipperary at the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday (3.30pm) in the league final.

Any time a team loses a big game by a solitary point, there is major disappointment for those involved, their management team, and for their supporters.

The Galway senior hurlers produced an impressive and extremely hard working performance all over the field in Semple Stadium last Sunday afternoon to defeat Clare by 2-17 to 0-17, and qualify for an All-Ireland semi-final against Tipperary on August 14 in Croke Park.

First match for Galway: 

When you sit down and talk Galway hurling with David Collins, you can imagine what it is like to be in the dressing room and ready to go to war in maroon and white. If passion alone won a Celtic cross, then Collins would be weighed down with them at this stage of his career. But, alas, the 31-year-old  Liam Mellows' man has just the one from the u-21 championship  in 2005.

As Mayo people, it really does not seem to bother us right now because we most definitely dine at the top table in terms of Gaelic football. Not only have the Mayo team won five Nestor cups in a row but more impressively they have qualified for the All-Ireland semi-final five years in a row, beating Donegal twice, Cork twice, and Down in those quarter finals. Two of them, victories against Cork in 2011 and Donegal in 2013, were when they were All Ireland champions.

The Galway players worked exceptionally hard all over the field last Sunday to harvest a terrific and inspiring victory. There was a real steeliness to the entire performance which was fantastic to see.
